Developmental Educators implement and develop effective strategies to support an individual’s developmental learning goals, in many ways, including:

·         Teaching functional life skills:

o    Decision making

o    Social interactions

o    Communication,

o    Self-care

o    Daily living

o    Recreation

o    Education & Employment

·         Assist in setting and achieving an individual personal goals

·         Working and liaising with families, service providers, allied health professionals, and community members to enhance opportunities to increase quality of life

·         Facilitating self-advocacy and / or advocate on behalf of people

·         Transitioning to or accessing & maintaining meaningful vocational experiences

·         Helping families, & individuals to understand the impact of disability on a person’s daily functioning.

·         Support the individual with opportunities to explore their world and learn more about their own interests and capacities and contributions they can make to their community and beyond

·         Create routines and schedules to gain choice and control over their life and a clear vision of the path they want to explore in the future.
